To kick off our Zine Unboxing Series, we’re introducing Risograph zines! The Risograph refers to a printing system developed in Japan during the 1980s. Borrowing from the term risō, meaning “ideal” in Japanese, its soy-based ink provided a cheaper alternative to imported emulsion ink following Japan’s post-WWII economic depression. Not only is Riso ideal for its price, it can also produce vibrant colours at high speed, making this machine—first born out of necessity—a popular printmaking tool fo
