Five people were shot and wounded shortly past midnight Saturday at Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia, prompting a campus lockdown that continued past dawn.

Five people were shot and wounded, one critically, outside of residence halls at Virginia State University early Saturday, officials said.

Chesterfield County police said they responded to a call around 1:30 a.m. about a shooting in the area of Boisseau Street and found five people suffering apparent gunshot wounds at the scene.
